Hi All,

We now have over 280 members in our group, and the numbers continue to grow daily. As I mentioned at our recent meetup, we are at a point where we need to ask the question, "What do we want the group to be (when it grows up)?" To be more specific, are we content to meet once per month, pay $1, have dinner and talk Scrum, OR do we want to do more? I don't mean meet more often and I am not advocating that we try to become the next PMI or APLN, but I think it's appropriate to explore some ideas and allow the group to decide.

I am asking for volunteers to join a special purpose Scrum team to create some proposals for enhancing the group's membership, activities and/or sponsorhip that will be presented to the group in November. I will act as Product Owner, and I have asked Sam Moore to assume the role of ScrumMaster. We need 5-8 volunteers to join as team members.

If you are interested in joining us please RSVP yes for this meetup and contact me at my personal email address mfortunato31@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

Michael

The Good and Bad of Agile Offshore Development

Companies today are attempting to lower costs and increase their staffing flexibility by taking some of their development activities overseas. Simultaneously, many of these same organizations are exploring agile development practices in an effort to increase quality and to improve project performance. This report explores the intersection of these two significant trends common in today’s software development organizations. We will show how our team built an effective agile offshore development capability, what we learned along the way, and what we would do differently next time around.

Description
Agile has gone mainstream in software development organizations. The next wave of Agile adoptions will take place in Systems and Product Development organizations. These companies require a unique approach and proficiency in scaling Agility to successfully manage development domains such as software, hardware, systems, deployment, supply-chain, and firmware that often require the complex coupling of Agile with Waterfall and Stage-Gate processes. In other words, there are tremendous opportunities for Agile experts to help companies scale Agility beyond Software. Karl will provide an overview of these markets, and resulting opportunities for Agile practitioners.
